Choosing the right band diameter and stretch ratio is key to getting the performance you want from your speargun.
Choosing the right band diameter and stretch ratio is key to getting the performance you want from your speargun.
Band Diameter
14mm (9/16") – Smooth loading and recoil-friendly. Great for reef guns, smaller euros, and lighter setups.
16mm (5/8") – The most popular all-around option. Balanced power and control for kelp and general hunting.
18mm (3/4") – Maximum power for larger guns and bluewater applications. Best for experienced divers.
Stretch Ratio
Most bands are built between 300%–350% stretch.
300%–320%: Easier loading, smoother shot, longer band life.
330%–350%: More power and shaft speed, but harder to load and increased wear.

You can calculate your custom band length using the method below. This formula is designed to produce 300% band stretch, which is a common and reliable setup for many spearguns.
Step 1: Measure Your Gun
Measure the distance in inches from the band slot opening at the top of the gun to the furthest shark fin on the shaft.
Make sure the shaft is locked into the trigger mechanism when measuring.
Step 2: Apply the Formula
Use the following equation:
(Gun Length × 2) ÷ 3 − 3 = Band Length (inches)
This calculation gives you the correct band length for 300% stretch.
Example
A standard 120cm speargun measures approximately 48 inches from the band slot to the furthest shark fin.
48 × 2 = 96
96 ÷ 3 = 32
32 − 3 = 29 inches
Ordering a 29" band will give you 300% stretch on a 120cm gun.
Typical Setup
Many guns are rigged with (2) 16mm Regular I.D. power bands using this equation.
Larger guns often perform best with two bands for proper power and shaft speed.
